CLARE SPINDLER Ceramic Espresso Cup or Shot Glass

Ceramicist Clare Spindler makes these cups by hand at Turning Earth pottery studio in Leyton, East London. Crafted in her signature architecture-inspired shapes with softened edges, these cups are designed for stacking, and they sit beautifully alongside her larger mugs and platters.

The cups are made from a stoneware clay and finished in one of six glazes:

Pearl - a glossy pale white-grey glaze which shows delicate speckles from the oxidation process of the stoneware clay.

Matte White - a milky off-white with subtle iron speckles, appearing a little thicker in parts to add interest

Robin's Egg - a highly speckled glossy grey-blue glaze

Golden Speckle - a rich, honey-coloured glaze with dark brown speckles and subtle streaks of pale grey.

Shino - a white glaze heavily speckled with deep orange and rust tones 

Smoke - a dramatic and glossy dark blue-grey glaze with subtle hints of green and brown.

Working from Turning Earth in Leyton, Clare Spindler creates functional ceramics in stoneware and porcelain with an emphasis on streamlined, architectural shapes. While the majority of her work is wheel-thrown, she also produces decorative pieces that combine thrown and altered and hand-built components, and has recently begun experimenting with atmospheric firing techniques.
