DESCRIPTION

A well-formed mug for tea or coffee, handmade in Sheffield by Pottery West.

These mugs are thrown on the potter’s wheel in an iron-rich flecked stoneware, and stamped with Pottery West’s maker’s mark. They are finished with a Sand toned glaze, using a dipped effect that leaves some raw clay at the base for a textural contrast. 

Ideal for any hot drink, or as a gift for someone who enjoys minimalist ceramic kitchenware and tableware.

This is Catherine and Matt West’s original mug design and has become a firm favourite over the years. It has a pared back form with straight vertical sides and a well proportioned handle that begins around a third of the way down the side and connects to the base of the mug. The mug feels slim yet strong, with a well balanced weight to its base.

Glazed in 'Sand', a simple yet interesting glaze that uses red iron oxide as its main colourant to create warm sandy tones with plenty of iron speckles that appear orange, red and brown.

From their Sheffield city centre studio, Catherine and Matt West design and make by hand their range of beautiful, functional ceramic tableware. Together with their small team, they use traditional methods of making, creating forms by hand on the wheel and with minimal tools, with glazes mixed from oxides and raw materials.
