The making process 
Sean and Ellie are passionate about supporting small, independent sawmills who really care about the quality of their timber. The oak is quarter-sawn and air-dried in the Derbyshire countryside, before being carefully cut, shaped and sanded by hand in Selwyn House's Northamptonshire workshop.  

Each board is crafted from one single piece of wood to ensure as smooth and useable a surface as possible. It is then finished in food-safe mineral oil, with a final coating of Vegan Wood Balm which brings out the grain with a subtle lustre.

These slow, patient processes result in fantastically characterful wood - it also means your board is strong and stable, unlikely to warp or split and will only get more characterful with age and use. Look after it, and your board will last a lifetime.

Each board is unique and shows the qualities of the wood - some have small knots or striations across the surface which differ from the photos shown here. None of these affect the structure of the wood.

How to care for your pizza board
Not suitable for dishwashers or submerging in water. For best results wipe clean with a damp cloth and use a Wood Balm regularly to preserve the finish.

Established in 2017 by Sean Best and Ellie Smalls, Selwyn House create functional yet beautiful wooden tableware that doesn’t compromise on sustainability. Their pieces are born from a love of great food and gathering together for simple feasts. Every piece is made individually by hand in their workshop in rural Northamptonshire, exclusively from trees which are grown in Britain and sourced in small batches from independent sawmills.
